The Kerrigan Gymnastics Academy team has a wealth of knowledge, years of experience and a joy for working with children. All our staff are certified NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) level one or higher.

Ashley Kohls

Ashley has been coaching gymnastics for 2 years. She was a competitive gymnast for 13 years, representing British Columbia at Canadian Westerns Championships.  She is Level 1 certified through the National Coaching Certification Program.  Ashley is working on her Level 2 and will also be attending university to become a school teacher.  Gymnastics has been part of Ashley’s life since she was little and she looks forward to sharing her passion and love for gymnastics to all of the children she teaches.

 
Sarah Moreno

Sarah has been a recreational gymnastics coach for 6 years.  She did recreational gymnastics for 2 years before she became a coach.  Sarah is Level 1 certified through the National Coaching Certification Program.  Sarah has taught every age group from 15 months to 12 years old.  Sarah has just finished the teaching program at SFU.  She believes gymnastics teaches children fundamental skills they need to succeed in all other sports.  She looks forward to teaching every child these important skills as well as having fun.

 
Sara Kerrigan

Sara Markel (now Kerrigan) lived and trained in Coquitlam for most of her life. She was a Canadian National Team Member representing Canada at the 1991 World Championships and other International competitions throughout her gymnastics career.  Sara is Level 3 certified through the National Coaching Certification Program.  Sara has been coaching for 15 years.  She has coached all different levels beginning at the parent participation level all the way up to competitive.  Sara received so many different types of benefits from gymnastics and wants to share her knowledge with each child that comes into the gym.

 
Rory Kerrigan

Rory has been in gymnastics since he was in pre-school. He was a National Level gymnast and has been coaching all levels of men’s and women’s gymnastics for many years. Rory took some time off of gymnastics while working for a land development company before starting Kerrigan Gymnastics Academy with his wife Sara. Rory has a passion for gymnastics and his fun respectful coaching style have had an impact on many children lives.

 
Mark Rowbotham

Mark is a level 2 NCCP coach and has been a pivotal employee with Kerrigan gymnastics since its opening in 2007. Mark has been involved in gymnastics for 16 years as both a coach and an athlete. He was coached by both owners as a competitive athlete and is one of the highest requested preschool coaches. Mark assisted with creation of our Leap Frog Preschool Program and he teaches many of our advanced Preschool classes and our pre competitive programs. Mark also coaches in both our men’s and women’s competitive programs.  

 
Cory LeCouilliard

Cory is a NCCP Level 2 Certified coach. She started coaching in Calgary in 2000, and has been with Kerrigan since its start-up in 2006. She has coached athletes from ages 1.5 up to teens in kinderkids, girls and boys recreational gymnastics, interclub, as well as birthday parties. Cory enjoys helping young athletes realize their potential in a fun, challenging environment.

 
Sean McConnel
Cory LeCouilliard

Sean is a level 3 NCCP certified coach and has been involved in all aspects of gymnastics for over 15 years.  He has competed nationally at the high performance level.  Since his retirement from the competitive scene, Sean has enjoyed teaching athletes of all ages the benefits that gymnastics develops both physically, mentally and emotionally.

Leon Vu
- Competitive Program Head Coach

Leon has been coaching gymnastics for 23 years. He is NCCP level four certified and is a NCCP level two technical course conductor. Leon has developed many high performance athletes over the years and was a three time recipient of the Gymnastics BC Stan Wilkes Provincial coach of the year award. He is also a Men’s Pre-National Judge and has regularly been named as Team BC Coach to Western and National Championships. Leon is also a third Degree black belt in Ju-Jutsu and runs his school Budoshin Ju-Jutsu out of Kerrigan Gymnastics as well as being Men’s and Women’s Competitive Head Coach. Marinka Hoogerdijk
- Recreational Program Director

Marinka has been involved in gymnastics for most of her life, from a gymnast to a coach. She has coached gymnastics for more then 17 years, coaching in The Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand and now Canada. She is also a certified Classical Pilates Instructor and had her own Pilates Studio in New Zealand. Marinka’s passion is sports and people, and she is happy to combine these into her role as Kerrigan Gymnastics Academy’s Recreation Program Director. Liudmila Lobaznyuk

Liudmila is our primary Women’s competitive coach. She is NCCP Level four certified and is proud to have coached her daughter Ekaterina Lobaznyuk who won 2 silver and 1 bronze medals at the Sidney Olympics in 2000. She has been coaching for 32 years, 14 years at the International level. Liudmila is a honoured Russian Trainer and has won Gymnastics BC’s Gladys Hartley Coach of the year 2008 & the Sev Heiberg National Level Coach of the year in 2010. She also teaches dance and makes girls body suits, on sale at the Academy office. She a is fantastic role model and mentor to gymnasts and fellow coaches.
